We want everyone to be able to read and use Maitz (maitz.co.il), including people with disabilities. We are working to make the site meet Israeli Standard IS 5568, which is based on the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 at level AA. Accessibility work on the site is ongoing, and we keep improving it.

Current accessibility status

The site has not undergone a comprehensive accessibility audit by a certified accessibility consultant or other external party, and we do not claim that it currently meets every requirement of the standard. This statement describes what is in place as of the date above, along with known limitations.

What is already in place

  • The page language and text direction are set in the code: Hebrew pages are marked as Hebrew, right to left, and English pages are marked as English, left to right, so screen readers use the right language.
  • A “skip to content” link at the top of every page lets you jump straight to the main content without going through the menu.
  • Pages use defined regions (header, navigation, main content and footer), one main heading per page and an orderly structure of subheadings.
  • Images in articles and article cards have text alternatives (alt text).
  • A clearly visible focus indicator (a bold outline around links, buttons and fields) when navigating with the keyboard.
  • Screen-reader labels for icon-only buttons and links, such as search, the menu and the social media links.
  • The mobile menu button tells screen readers whether the menu is open or closed.
  • A responsive layout that adapts to desktop, tablet and phone screens.
  • Reduced animation and transitions for visitors who have set a reduced-motion preference on their device.
  • Tables in articles include a header row.

Known limitations

  • Some small turquoise labels (for example, the category name above an article title) have lower contrast against a white background than required.
  • On English pages, some interface elements, such as the menu, footer headings and the skip-to-content link, are still shown in Hebrew.
  • The cookie consent banner comes from a third-party plugin, and we don’t fully control its accessibility.
  • Links lead to external websites, such as companies’ official documentation and social networks. Their accessibility is the responsibility of their operators.
  • Screenshots in articles are described in their alt text, but not every detail they show may also appear in the article text.
  • The site has not been systematically tested with every combination of browser, device and screen reader.

If you run into a problem that isn’t listed here, we’d like to hear about it.
