Who operates the site

The Maitz website, at maitz.co.il, is operated by Nisim, who is the controller of the personal information collected through the site’s activity. For privacy questions and requests, you can contact press@maitz.co.il.

Contacting us by email

When you send us an email, we receive the sender’s address, the content of the message and any details or files you chose to attach. This information is used to handle your inquiry, reply to it and follow up on related matters. Providing this information is your choice, and you are under no legal obligation to contact us. Without an address we can reply to, we won’t be able to answer you by email.

Inquiries are received in the site operator’s Gmail inbox and are also processed through Google services. Please don’t send passwords, payment details or sensitive information that isn’t needed for your inquiry. Clicking the email link on the site opens your own mail app; your message is sent only when you choose to send it.

Comments on the site

Where commenting is available, you can post a comment without registering an account. The comment form requires a name and an email address. Providing them is your choice, but a comment cannot be submitted without the required fields. You can keep reading the site without commenting.

The display name and content of a published comment are publicly visible. If you provided a link to a website, it may also appear next to your comment. Your email address is not shown in the public part of the comment. WordPress also stores the IP address and browser data associated with the comment, for comment management and to deal with abuse.

Profile pictures and cookies

The Gravatar service, operated by Automattic, is used to display profile pictures next to comments. To match the picture, an identifier calculated from your email address is used, and loading the picture involves a request to the service’s servers. Your profile picture may be visible next to your comment. More information on how the service processes data: https://automattic.com/privacy-notice/.

In the comment form, you can choose to save your name, email and website address in browser cookies, so you don’t have to fill them in again. This choice is not a condition for posting a comment. You can delete or block cookies through your browser settings.

Weekly newsletter

You can sign up for the Maitz weekly newsletter through the form at the end of our articles, at the bottom of our pages and on the newsletter page. The form collects only your email address, together with your consent checkbox. Providing your address is your choice, but you can’t sign up without it. We use this information to send the newsletter, to confirm your sign-up and to handle unsubscribe requests. As the form says, the newsletter may include marketing content and affiliate links; any such link will be clearly labeled.

Signing up is based on your explicit consent. The consent box is never pre-checked, and after you submit the form we email you a confirmation link (double opt-in). You are only added to the list after you click it. You can withdraw your consent at any time: every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can also ask to be removed by writing to press@maitz.co.il. Once you unsubscribe, we won’t send you further issues.

The subscriber list is managed with the MailPoet plugin and stored in our website’s database, on the hosting infrastructure described in the next section. To keep a record of your consent, we also store the date and time you signed up and confirmed, the form you used, and your IP address at sign-up and confirmation. In the emails themselves we measure opens and link clicks, so we know which topics readers find useful. This measurement does not add tracking cookies on the site. No third-party email sending service is set up at the moment. If we start using one, we will name it here, together with the information it receives.

We keep subscriber details for as long as you are subscribed. After you unsubscribe, we keep your email address on a suppression list so we don’t email you again, unless you ask us to delete it completely. Sign-ups that are never confirmed don’t receive the newsletter and are deleted in our periodic review of the information we hold.

If you are in the European Union, the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, our legal basis for sending the newsletter is your consent (Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR and the UK GDPR). Withdrawing consent doesn’t affect processing that took place before you withdrew it. Under these laws you have the right to access your data, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its processing, to receive it in a portable format, and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office). To exercise these rights, see “Access and correction” below.

Hosting, technical data and service providers

The site is hosted through Cloudways. As part of serving pages and operating the site, the hosting servers process technical data such as IP addresses, page requests, access times and browser data. Access and error logs are used for operations, troubleshooting and detecting abuse. Site data and comments are stored on the hosting infrastructure and may also be included in the service’s backups.

The providers relevant to the site in its current state are Cloudways and its infrastructure providers, for hosting and operations; Google, for email and, subject to consent, for analytics; and Automattic, for profile pictures. These services rely on infrastructure and providers in various countries; there is no commitment that information is processed or stored only in Israel.

Data retention

Inquiries and correspondence are kept in order to handle the inquiry and related follow-up. Comments and the information associated with them are kept in order to display the comments and manage the discussion. We periodically review which information is still needed for these purposes and delete or minimize information that is no longer needed, except for information there is a specific legal need to keep. Retention periods are set according to the purpose of the information and the need for it, not as a single fixed period for all types of information.

Hosting logs and backup copies are also subject to the service’s settings and to the providers’ retention and deletion cycles. The exact details of these settings are being clarified with the hosting provider. This policy does not commit to automatic deletion immediately when correspondence ends, or to immediate removal from every backup. You can contact us with a request regarding your information, as described below.

The site’s current setup

The site has a public contact form on the contact page, a weekly newsletter signup form and a comment form on articles. Subject to your choice, the site uses Google Analytics 4 to measure visits and improve the site. The analytics tool loads only after you approve measurement in the consent banner. It may send Google information such as the pages viewed, the referral source, browser and device data, and online identifiers stored in cookies. You can choose “No analytics” and keep browsing the site, or change or withdraw your consent at any time through “Privacy preferences.” Withdrawing consent stops future measurement; it does not automatically delete information that has already been sent. More information on how Google processes data: https://policies.google.com/privacy. Other processing of information through comments, email and hosting is described in the other sections of this policy.

Access and correction

Subject to applicable law, you can ask to review personal information held about you and ask us to correct or delete information that is inaccurate, incomplete, unclear or out of date. You can also contact press@maitz.co.il with any other question or request about your privacy.

So we can locate the information, please describe your request and include the relevant email address or a link to the relevant comment. If additional verification is needed, we will ask for the information required to handle the request. There is no need to send an ID document in advance.

Changes to this policy

When the ways we collect and use information change, we will update this policy and its update date. We will post a notice or ask for additional consent where required.
