GTA 6 claims can become more confident each time they are repeated. An analyst’s expectation turns into a supposedly revealed price, while a comment from someone outside Rockstar starts to sound like the developer’s own announcement. With the planned launch approaching, it is worth returning to the evidence. This check is current as of October 7, 2026.
This article is part of our complete GTA 6 guide, which collects all of our coverage of the game.
These claims do not all deserve the same verdict. Some were overtaken by an official announcement. Others have a traceable source but remain unconfirmed. Several turn on distinctions between editions or between a box and the product inside it.
The base game will cost 100 dollars
In January 2025, VGC covered Matthew Ball’s Epyllion analysis describing industry hopes for a price reaching $100. This was market analysis rather than Rockstar’s price announcement. The official US prices published in June 2026 are $79.99 for Standard and $99.99 for Ultimate.
Calling $100 the officially announced entry price therefore misrepresents the pricing. A more expensive edition exists, but its existence does not change the standard edition’s price. Check the edition and country before comparing offers. The dollar figures in the US announcement do not establish the price in another regional store.
There will be no box at launch
In January 2026, Insider Gaming covered PPE’s claim that a physical edition would follow the digital release. Take-Two’s June announcement instead included a boxed version available from November 12 for preloading. It explicitly said the box contains a download code.
That leaves a more specific answer than the familiar argument about physical versus digital. Packaging is part of the announced plan; a game disc is not what that packaging contains. The announcement does not confirm a future disc edition or date.
For buyers, the useful question is what they are purchasing. A picture of a case and a retailer’s physical-product label are insufficient if the goal is to own the game on a disc.
PS5 Pro performance
VICE covered HipHopGamer’s 60fps claim. Sony’s official page carries the PS5 Pro Enhanced label, but does not promise 60fps. An enhancement label is not a numerical performance commitment.
The page therefore cannot substantiate that promise. Equally, its silence does not establish that such a mode could never appear. A meaningful answer requires a specified graphics mode and performance target, followed by testing of the finished release.
This matters for anyone whose decision to upgrade depends on that particular frame rate. General excitement about more powerful hardware cannot establish that the feature motivating a purchase will be available.
Multiplayer has been announced for 2027
PC Gamer reported in September that Twitch CEO Dan Clancy referred to GTA 6 multiplayer launching the following year in a Bloomberg interview. That points to 2027. It is an attributable statement by a named executive, but Clancy is not announcing Rockstar’s release schedule on the developer’s behalf.
The PlayStation page checked for this article describes a single-player experience and provides no multiplayer timetable. The accurate formulation preserves Clancy’s attribution rather than replacing it with a claim that Rockstar confirmed the date. The plans may become clearer later; the present evidence does not establish an official announcement.
The same checks apply to the next headline: who said it, when, and whether a direct source has since appeared. Good fact-checking neither labels every unconfirmed claim a fabrication nor lets repetition turn a prediction into a fact.
