Gears of War: E-Day is now available to all purchasers. The Coalition’s game launched worldwide on October 6 for Xbox Series X|S and PC through the Xbox store and Steam. It is also included in Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. This is the full release, following the early-access period that began on October 1 for Premium Edition owners and subscribers who bought the appropriate upgrade.

The campaign takes Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago much further back in the story. According to the official game description, events take place 14 years before the original Gears of War, as the Locust invasion begins to transform Sera. The launch announcement describes a struggle lasting three days and nights in Kalona, with additional squad members trying to survive and understand the scale of the catastrophe.

In a guide published alongside the launch, Xbox emphasizes the combination of cover-based combat, movement and timing. Players will need to decide when to wait behind a wall, when to advance and when to get away from a heavy enemy. The guide also highlights firing without exposing yourself above cover and fighting at close range. These are the publisher’s pointers for starting the game; assessing its actual balance and feel requires independent hands-on experience.

Alongside the main route, some areas of Kalona have branching paths and side missions. According to Xbox, players can help other squads and civilians in exchange for rewards, including weapon upgrades. Equipment caches allow loadouts to change along the way, while collectibles add background about the world and its characters. Players who like to explore every corner therefore have a reason to look beyond the next objective marker.

The Xbox store lists the co-op options: up to four players online and two-player split-screen on console. In addition to the campaign, it presents Horde Siege, a cooperative survival mode with different roles, and competitive Versus. One important split-screen limitation is that the stated support is console-only. Online play on console requires a subscription that includes multiplayer access, even when the game itself is purchased separately.

Xbox Play Anywhere support allows owners of an eligible digital version to play on Xbox and PC with the same purchase. The store also lists cloud play for Ultimate subscribers. For anyone confused by the launch headlines over the past week, the date that matters for the standard edition is October 6: early access has ended, and the new installment is open to the wider audience.
