A new movement option is interesting when it opens a useful route. In Modern Warfare 4, the connection between traversal routes and weapon control is central to the details revealed so far.
This article is part of our complete Modern Warfare 4 guide, which collects all of our coverage of the game.
Clear an Obstacle and Stay in Control
The official beta guide describes moving directly from a low mantle into a slide, retaining momentum while crossing an obstacle and being able to change direction during the move. Additions also include a low slide that ends on the character’s back, pipe climbing and sideways movement while hanging from a ledge. Mobility Course offers instruction and timed routes for learning the system.
In an Xbox Wire interview, Infinity Ward gave examples of how the mechanics connect to the maps. In Lithium, a gap beneath garage doors was adjusted to accommodate the low slide; in Silkworm, cars provide opportunities to slide over the hood while keeping the weapon ready. The designers also described using copper-colored pipes to highlight climbable points.
This raises a practical question when learning a map: which passage makes the new move worthwhile? Our view is that it is worth starting with one shortcut and learning its exit. A quick move that ends at an unfamiliar angle may be less useful than a slightly longer route the player knows how to read. This is general learning advice that still needs to be tested against the full game’s maps.
What Does Shooting Without Random Spread Mean?
On the gunplay side, Activision announced the removal of Bloom from hip fire: the bullet travels in the direction the weapon is pointing. Recoil, sway and movement still affect accuracy.
That promise should be read carefully. It is not a time-to-kill test result, nor does it tell us that every shot will be easier. What we want to examine is the connection between what the player sees and what happens at the target. Can you identify why a shot missed? Does a small correction in movement produce a result you can repeat?
A useful test for a player would be to first compare stationary fire with firing on the move, using the same weapon at the same distance. Crossing an obstacle can be added afterward. That helps isolate a control issue instead of changing the weapon, range and movement all at once. This is our practice suggestion, without any advance judgment about the specific weapon or preferred range.
The Beta Is a Reference Point
The beta notes document fixes to ladder and pipe climbing and to obstacle traversal height. Infinity Ward also clarified that movement in Warzone is tuned separately and is not identical to multiplayer. There is therefore no reason to assume that every aspect of the beta’s feel or every figure will remain the same in every mode.
The design offers more opportunities to choose routes and keep actions flowing. The question left for a review is whether players can use them with a clear understanding, even under pressure and on their first encounter with a map. Ahead of launch, this is more interesting than counting new animations: how easy will it be to anticipate the end of each move and arrive with your aim where you want it?
