The same base game in two different packages
Choosing a Modern Warfare 4 edition starts with a simple question: do you want the game itself, or the extras around it as well? Standard includes the base game, while Vault includes it alongside additional digital content. You therefore do not need to upgrade to Vault to get the campaign, multiplayer and DMZ.
This article is part of our complete Modern Warfare 4 guide, which collects all of our coverage of the game.
In a check of the US Xbox Store on October 7, 2026, Standard was listed at $69.99 and Vault at $99.99. These are the displayed US store prices, not a final total for every region. The price that applies depends on the store, account region and discounts actually shown.
What Vault adds
The main extras are the Hostile Alliance Operator Pack, the Special Forces pack, a collection of five Signature Weapons, one season of BlackCell and the DMZ Deployment Bonus. The operator packs include versions of Price, Ghost and Valeria, among others, alongside special forces characters from different countries.
The words “one season” matter: buying Vault does not promise every future BlackCell season. According to the support page, an early purchase provides the content in Season 1. Check the terms again if you buy or upgrade later.
For the DMZ Deployment Bonus, the support page we checked still describes it as additional content with more details to come. That gives us no basis to assign it an exact value or describe a specific advantage not detailed in the source.
Early access is not exclusive to Vault
Campaign early access, scheduled for October 16, is included with preorders of both digital editions. The digital preorder bonuses are not all exclusive to Vault either. Before comparing packages, separate a benefit for preordering from an extra available only in the more expensive edition.
That distinction avoids an inflated comparison: if the same benefit appears in both editions, it is not a reason to pay for the upgrade. List only the differences that actually matter to your playstyle and the content you want.
Upgrading and the loyalty discount
Owners of digital Standard can upgrade to Vault; the support page lists a suggested upgrade price of $30 or the regional equivalent. A physical edition is not eligible for this upgrade. That matters if you are considering a cheap disc and adding the Vault bundle later.
Eligible players can also receive a 10% loyalty discount on a Vault preorder, subject to conditions involving a qualifying Call of Duty game and the same platform account. The discount does not apply to the Vault upgrade. If it matters to your comparison, check that it appears in the actual price before paying.
How to compare without being swayed by a long list
The useful approach is to assess the extras you actually intend to use. If you mainly want the campaign and matches with friends, start with Standard’s contents. If you also plan to progress through the seasonal track and want these particular packs, compare the price difference with the cost of alternatives in the store.
This is not a final buying recommendation for a game that has not yet been fully tested. The comparison helps explain what you are paying for; game quality, network stability and whether the modes suit you remain separate questions.
