OpenAI said on October 2, 2026 that Finances, ChatGPT’s personal finance experience, is now rolling out to users on the Free and Go plans in the US, on the web, iOS and Android. Until now it was reserved for paying subscribers: it launched in May 2026 as a preview for Pro users in the US and expanded to Plus in late June. According to OpenAI’s Help Center, Finances is now available in the US on all four plans: Free, Go, Plus and Pro.

The idea is simple. You connect your bank, credit card and investment accounts to ChatGPT, get a dashboard of where your money goes, and can ask questions whose answers are grounded in your actual data rather than a generic example.
What you can connect, and how
Accounts are linked through Plaid, a service that connects apps to financial institutions. At the original launch, OpenAI cited support for more than 12,000 institutions. Separately, you can connect credit report data through Experian, the US credit bureau. The Help Center says these are two separate connections, you can use either or both, and checking your score through this connection is a soft inquiry that does not affect your credit score.
To start, open Finances in the sidebar and choose Get started, or type @Finances in any conversation and ask to connect your accounts. After you authenticate, ChatGPT syncs and categorizes your data, which usually takes a few minutes. Depending on what is connected, the dashboard can show spending by category, upcoming payments, subscriptions, recurring bills, net worth over time, portfolio allocation and your credit score.
What has been added since launch
Alongside the expansion, OpenAI lists what the feature has gained since May:
- Weekly updates with insights on your finances.
- Credit monitoring, to track your credit score over time and see what affects it.
- Stock watchlists.
- Voice support for talking through money questions.
- Android support.
- Manual entry for accounts you have not connected.
You can also tell ChatGPT things that do not appear in your accounts, such as a mortgage, a savings goal or a loan from your parents. It saves them as “financial memories,” a dedicated type of memory used only in money conversations, and you can view or delete them from the Finances page.
What ChatGPT cannot do
OpenAI stresses that the tool is for understanding and planning, not for taking action. According to the Help Center, ChatGPT cannot move money, pay bills, make trades, change account settings, open or close accounts, or file taxes. The company says plainly that it is not an investment or tax adviser, does not replace professional advice, and that its answers are for information and planning only.
On privacy, disconnecting Finances in Settings removes the connected financial data from ChatGPT, but not what is already in past conversations, which you need to delete separately. In a temporary chat, ChatGPT does not access your connected accounts. For model training, Finances conversations follow the same data control settings you chose for ChatGPT as a whole. If you want to see how these kinds of settings compare across tools, our Grok Bot vs ChatGPT comparison is a good starting point.
What about everyone else
For now, nothing changes outside the US. OpenAI’s announcement and documentation only cover the US, and parts of the feature, such as Experian credit data, are built on the American financial system. OpenAI has not given a date for other countries. The direction is clear, though: a feature that started as a preview for Pro subscribers reached the free tier in under six months, and OpenAI said at launch that its goal is to make it available to everyone.
