Paradox Interactive and Tantalus Media announced Cities: Skylines – Expanded Edition for Nintendo Switch 2 on October 7. The edition will launch on October 28 at a suggested price of $49 or €49. It is based on Colossal Order’s original city-building game, so it is worth checking the edition name when comparing versions in the store.

According to the official specifications, the buildable area will increase from nine to 25 tiles. The package will include ten content items and expansions, including After Dark, Snowfall, Green Cities and Sunset Harbor. It will also add a map editor and keyboard and mouse support.

Two graphics options will be available: a performance mode targeting 60 frames per second and a quality mode targeting 30. These are the developers’ targets; we have not independently tested how the game behaves in a dense city or after many hours of building.

Owners of Cities: Skylines on Nintendo Switch will be eligible for a 70% loyalty discount on the new edition, from launch day through April 28, 2027. Regional pricing and the precise redemption conditions for each player’s account still need to be checked in the store.

For players who have already built a city in the previous version, the practical question before buying is what happens to their existing save. The announcement does not detail save transfers between editions. It is worth checking this in advance and waiting for performance tests of large cities, where traffic and service demands are more substantial.

On paper, the additional space and control options make this an interesting version for players who want to keep planning their city away from a computer. The discount may make the move easier, but account eligibility, save support and real-world performance are the details to verify before deciding.
