Gamma vs Canva for presentations, short version: Gamma is the better fit when you need a full first draft from a prompt or document. Canva is the better fit when you need precise layout control, Brand Kits and the same visual system across decks, social posts and other assets. Both offer a free tier and paid plans in USD on the pages we checked on October 13, 2026.

Note: this is a decision comparison based on official pricing and help pages fetched today, plus earlier hands-on work we already published on Maitz. We did not create new accounts today and did not run the same brief in both tools on the same day. Details are in the transparency box. Our method is explained in How We Test AI Tools.

What we checked vs what we didn’t

  • Checked today (October 13, 2026): Gamma and Canva pricing pages, Gamma export, credits and language help articles, and Canva presentations and Brand Kit help pages.
  • Checked earlier on Maitz (October 4, 2026): in Canva we imported a right-to-left PPTX carousel and exported PNG and PDF — see our import/export review.
  • Not tested today: a live Gamma or Canva AI deck from the same brief, Canva→PPTX export, a full Brand Kit setup, or timed prompt-to-deck measurements.
  • Docs-based guides (not live runs): Gamma presentation guide, Canva AI presentation to PowerPoint, Canva Brand Kit guide.

Quick answer: who wins by job

Recommendation by common job — not an overall ranking

Client deck that must match brand colors and logo Canva Brand Kit, templates and per-element control
Campaign that needs a deck plus social creatives Canva, or Gamma then Canva One brand system across formats; Gamma only if you need a faster content draft first

What actually differs

Gamma is built around an AI agent that turns a prompt into a presentation, document or webpage of editable cards you can share or export. Canva is a design studio with a large template library, deep manual editing, and AI helpers such as Guided Presentations — while layout and brand decisions stay in your hands.

Gamma: prompt to first draft

On the official site, Gamma positions itself as a visual communication platform with an AI agent. The pricing page lists PDF, PPTX, PNG and Google Slides export even on Free, with credit limits and branding rules. Our practical Gamma guide walks through brief, prompt and export checks from official docs — without a live account run.

Canva: templates, AI and manual control

Canva’s presentations page highlights Guided Presentations with Canva AI, templates, motion and export to PowerPoint, PDF, video or a Canva website. Our Canva AI to PowerPoint guide covers asking for structure before design and what to verify after a PPTX download — also docs-based, without a full AI run.

Speed vs brand control

If the bottleneck is getting from a messy brief to a slide outline, Gamma’s generator is the shorter path on paper: one prompt, a structured deck, then edits. If the bottleneck is matching a brand system — logos, approved fonts, multiple Brand Kits, approvals — Canva’s pricing page is clearer: Free includes one Brand Kit with three colors; Pro lists five Brand Kits; Business lists 100. We observed the Brand area and a three-color free start in an earlier account check, but we did not create and save a full kit.

Export to PowerPoint, Google Slides and PDF

Gamma → PPTX / PDF

Per Gamma help: Share → Export or the three-dot menu; pick a format and All cards for the full deck. Output matches Present mode. PPTX tables can stay editable. Theme fonts are embedded in PPTX; Google Slides substitutes its own fonts after a PPTX upload. On Free, PDF and PPTX get a Made by Gamma badge; any active paid plan removes the badge from future exports.

Canva → PPTX / PDF

Canva’s presentations marketing page states you can export as PowerPoint, PDF, a video slideshow or a Canva website. In our October 4, 2026 import/export review we confirmed PNG and PDF from an imported carousel; we did not download PPTX from Canva in that test or today. If the recipient must edit in PowerPoint, plan a check in the target app even when export is documented.

Free vs paid limits

Official prices seen October 13, 2026 (US view)

Gamma Free $0 400 signup credits (no refresh on Free), up to 10 slides/prompt, branded PDF/PPTX exports
Gamma Plus $9/seat/month ($108/year) 1,000 monthly credits, up to 100 slides/prompt, branding removed
Gamma Pro $18/seat/month ($216/year) 4,000 credits, custom branding, API
Gamma Ultra $90/seat/month ($1,080/year) 20,000 credits, most advanced models
Canva Free $0 Templates, 1 Brand Kit (3 colors), up to 20 Standard/Premium AI uses per the page
Canva Pro US$144/year per person 5 Brand Kits, 10× more AI than Free (per the page)
Canva Business US$250/year per person 100 Brand Kits, team admin, 20× more AI than Free

Canva’s page showed yearly billing in the view we captured; the monthly toggle hit a challenge page from our network, so we do not quote a Canva monthly price here. Gamma lists up to 28% savings on annual billing. Taxes may apply by location.

For brand setup details see our Brand Kit guide (docs plus UI observation; full kit setup not run).

When to choose which — or combine

  • Gamma alone: internal drafts, early pitches, or when structure and copy are the main job.
  • Canva alone: branded client decks, or when the rest of your design work already lives in Canva.
  • Combine: Gamma draft → PPTX/PDF export → language and layout check → Canva finish before send.

Before you send a client file: (1) every brief fact survived, (2) no invented metrics, (3) mixed-language lines look right, (4) the file opens outside the tool, (5) share permissions match the recipient.

FAQ: Gamma vs Canva

Gamma or Canva — which is better for presentations?

For a deck you need quickly from a prompt or document, Gamma fits better because it builds structure, copy and a first layout together. Canva fits better when you need precise design control, a Brand Kit, or the deck sits inside a wider design system. If you need both speed and a polished brand look, drafting in Gamma and finishing in Canva is a reasonable path — after you check the exported file.

How do export to PowerPoint, Google Slides and PDF compare?

Gamma’s help center documents export to PDF, PNG and PPTX (Google Slides via uploading that PPTX). Free-plan PDF and PPTX exports include a Made by Gamma badge; any active paid plan removes it from future exports. Canva’s presentations page lists export as PowerPoint, PDF, a video slideshow or a Canva website. In our October 4, 2026 Canva test we verified PNG and PDF export from an imported deck; we did not run a Canva→PPTX export in that test or today.

When is the free plan enough?

Gamma Free gives 400 signup credits that do not refresh, up to 10 slides per prompt in the generator, and branded exports. Canva Free includes templates, one Brand Kit with three colors, and a limited AI allowance on the pricing page. Both are enough to compare the tools and produce a few drafts. Once you need frequent decks, unbranded client files or team brand control, you usually move to a paid plan. Re-check the official pricing page on the day you buy.

Who should pick Gamma vs Canva for brand control?

Pick Canva when logos, fonts and colors must stay consistent across presentations and other channels — Free allows one Brand Kit with three colors; Pro lists five Brand Kits on the pricing page we checked. Pick Gamma when the bottleneck is getting a structured first draft fast; paid Gamma plans add custom branding and remove the export badge.

What about collaboration and privacy?

Both tools support sharing links and team workflows on paid tiers; check each product’s current sharing settings in-account. Gamma’s pricing page states it is a SOC 2 Type II organization. Canva publishes trust and security pages from its site footer. For EU work, review each vendor’s privacy policy and DPA before uploading client data — we did not run a legal review here.

Bottom line

Gamma vs Canva is not a single-winner race. For speed from prompt to structure, start with Gamma. For brand control and multi-format design, start with Canva. Free tiers are enough to compare; paid plans should match how often you export clean files and how strict your brand rules are.
