Returning to the starting line can be a satisfying goal, or an interruption to a loadout you already enjoy. Modern Warfare 4 offers two paths that let players choose the trade-off for their next run.
This article is part of our complete Modern Warfare 4 guide, which collects all of our coverage of the game.
How the two paths differ
According to the official announcement, Classic Prestige relocks Create-a-Class progression in exchange for faster XP gains and exclusive rewards. Regular Prestige starts again at level 1 while keeping unlocked Create-a-Class content, with its own reward path and milestones.
That makes this a fairly personal choice. Players who enjoy unlocking options again may like the rhythm of the classic path. Those who return mainly to play with a favorite loadout may prefer to keep it. “Classic” describes a type of progression; it is not a measure of a player’s skill.
Consider what is fun without the reward
Our suggested way to decide starts with a simple question: was unlocking the equipment enjoyable in itself? If so, repeating part of that journey could give the next few evenings a goal. If the fun mostly began after you found the right loadout, give more weight to keeping access to it.
Available time matters too. Someone who joins friends for a short, regular session may value continuity and convenience over another long-term target. Someone looking for a reason to experiment again may prefer a structure that encourages it. These are considerations for choosing a path, rather than a claim that either one offers better value in hours played.
Before activating a reset, read the in-game explanation and check exactly what stays, what locks and what you receive. In particular, look for an answer on whether you can switch paths later. Nothing here promises that the choice is reversible or that every exception familiar from a previous game will also appear in MW4.
Separate beta progress from the full progression system
The official beta progression guide distinguishes between gameplay progress that resets and cosmetic rewards unlocked during the beta that are intended to be available in the full game. The rank reached in the beta therefore does not tell you where you will begin in the launch Prestige system.
As of October 7, the sources reviewed explain the principle behind the two paths. They do not give us a basis to publish a specific XP percentage, a final reward list or a number of Prestige cycles here. Those details should be checked again against the current in-game explanation or a detailed official announcement.
The useful choice is the one that gives you a welcome reason to return. Decide by the kind of progression you want to experience, rather than pressure to complete whichever path sounds more demanding. Once the final rewards are in front of you, you can weigh them against the time and equipment you want to keep.
