The updated date and supported consoles
If you still have May 26 marked on your calendar, it is time to update it. As of October 7, 2026, Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to arrive on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. That is the date listed on Rockstar’s website and in the quarterly report published by its parent company, Take-Two, on August 7. The game has not been released yet, and this date is the company’s current launch target.

There is some history behind that schedule: the previous release window was 2025, followed by an announced date of May 26, 2026. In November 2025, the launch was moved to November 2026. Rockstar explained that the additional delay would give it more time to finish polishing the game. Be wary of old search results and videos that still present the May date as current.
PC players do not currently have a corresponding date in the official launch lineup checked for this article. PC system requirements are also outside the information that has been verified. On consoles, the PlayStation page explicitly states that there is no PS4 version; the Xbox platform list includes Series X and Series S. Anyone waiting for a PC version needs to wait for a dedicated announcement, without treating an estimate of the release order as a promise.
The PlayStation page lists support for the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, alongside 3D audio. It also carries the PS5 Pro Enhanced label. These are official features and labels, but they are no substitute for performance measurements from the finished game. The page also lists a single-player experience and offline play support, details worth distinguishing from the GTA+ benefits included with a preorder.
The price is known, but the box does not include a disc
Preorders opened on June 25. Rockstar’s announcement of the game’s pricing and availability listed the standard edition at $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition at $99.99. These are announced US prices; prices outside the US may differ. The amount charged by a local store, the currency, and the terms of the purchase should all be checked on the product page you are buying from.
The standard edition includes the game. Ultimate adds items and content tied to Jason and Lucia’s story, including vehicles, weapons, and clothing. According to the official support page, the upgrade can also be purchased separately. Choosing the standard edition therefore does not rule out adding the package later.
The potentially surprising detail concerns the physical edition: Rockstar makes clear that the box contains a digital download code, with no disc. The boxed edition is due to be available from retailers starting November 12 to allow preloading. If you want a disc for your collection, or plan to play directly from physical media, take that distinction into account before paying.
Preloading and the fine print
Preloading is scheduled to begin at midnight local time on November 12. This is when you can download the files in advance; it does not bring the release date forward by a week. The final download size is also not something to infer from rumors or a third-party store listing.
Anyone buying a PlayStation code should pay particular attention to whether it matches their account region. The support page divides codes into groups of countries, so check that the region group matches your account. A box purchased in another country is not necessarily suitable for your account. Rockstar recommends buying from a retailer in the country associated with your account to reduce activation problems.
Eligible digital purchases in the promotion also include one month of GTA+ at no additional charge, but it must be redeemed separately. According to Rockstar, after that month the subscription renews at the regular monthly price until canceled. That is more useful than any countdown: before ordering, check which edition you are getting, which region the code is intended for, and what happens to the subscription benefit when the month ends.
